On last Friday, Joomla! released version Alpha 1 for Joomla! 3.0 including most of the platform changes scheduled to be included in version 3.0.0. This version is for developers to test custom extensions and report bugs or other issues to help completing Joomla! 3.0. Therefore, this Joomla 3.0 Alpha 1 version is not for production site.

NOTE: Your host needs to use PHP 5.3.1 or higher to run this version of Joomla!

joomla 3.0 updates

Stated in our previous blog on Joomla 3.0, if you are using Joomla! 2.5, it is suggested that you should not upgrade to Joomla! 3.0 (a standard-term-support) and wait for Joomla! 3.5 (long-term-support) to upgrade. However, if you are using Joomla! 1.5 then it is necessary for you to upgrade to 2.5 version so that you can switch to Joomla! 3.0 or 3.5 version later.

Joomla! 3.0 Alpha is just the 1^st phase of the whole progress to release complete Joomla! 3.0. Installing and testing this version, developers can have chance to adjust and change their code in their extensions to make them compatible with Joomla! 3.0.
